Peyton Townes and siblings are descended from Humphrey Tabb through the marriage of Frances Tabb to Thomas Peyton. Their daughter Frances Tabb Peyton married Humphrey Gwynn. Their daughter was Frances Ann Gwynn, the second wife of Gov. William Giles. (Gov. Giles's first wife was a cousin of Frances named Martha Peyton Tabb.)
Frances Tabb was a great granddaughter of Humphrey Tabb, an immigrant from England to Virginia. He transported many others to America, which qualified him to receive large grants of land. The Tabbs became a wealthy and influential family in Virginia.
One historian noted that the Tabbs and Peytons intermarried several times, and their histories are tightly entwined.
