Biography
Note: He has been thought to be the son of Robert Peyton, but his parentage has been disputed.
Sir John de Peyton Kt., son and heir of Sir Robert by Joan Marney, greatly increased the wealth and consequence of his family, by marrying Margaret, one of the two daughters and coheirs of Sir John Gernon Kt., who had large estates in Essex, Derbyshire, and Northamptonshire, Margaret was thirty-four years of age when her father died, on 13th Jan. 1383-84, and on the partition of his estates had for her share the Manors of East Thorpe and Birch and the Hundred of Lexden in Essex and the Manor of Wicken in Cambridgeshire. This partition took place in 1395 (18 Richard H.), and Sir John Peyton presented in right of his wife to the Rectory of Little Lees in Essex, 19th March 1395-6; (12) but he died soon afterwards, and was buried with his ancestors at Stoke Neyland.
His widow Margaret survived him about sixteen years, and died 6th June 1413, aged sixty-three. She was buried at Wicken, and a monumental slab, with a brass figure on it, still remains in that church.

RICHARD BRANCH, a woolen draper, settled in Abingdon, Berkshire, England, in the early part of the sixteenth century. He was a man of considerable importance, being for many years head of the Fraternity of the Holy Cross. Originally this Guild had been founded for the dispensation of charity, but a long and active existence, together with ownership of considerable property, had made it the center of the civic life of Abingdon. J. Branch Cabell in "Branch of Abingdon" (pp. 32-37) has given an interesting picture of this organization and of its work.
Richard Branch married Elizabeth Beauforest, daughter of Thomas Beauforest of Deane, Gloucester County. He was buried in the north or Jesus Aisle of St. Helen's Church on 16 September, 1544. His will, dated 27 August, 1544, is as follows:

To Marion my daughter a pair of jet beads with silver gawds, a silver spoon, beside the one that Mr. Wodword gave her, and 20s.
