Paternal Ancestors - John Pearce

The paternal ancestors of John Pearce can be traced to his great grandparents James Washington Pearce and his wife Lydia Clendaniel. His maternal ancestors include members of the Wallace and Bragg families of North Carolina, among others.

James Pearce was born in 1833 in Maryland. As an adult he lived both in Baltimore  and Philadelphia. He was an a engineer of steam equipment, and for a period ran a business. James Pearce's possible father was Charles Pearce as listed on a death certificate. However, no other information is available.

Lydia was the daughter of Clement Clendaniel, who was listed on a census as laborer. They were from Delaware.

They had a large family. One son, William Edward Pearce, was the father of John Pearce. William grew up in Pennsylvania, and worked as a fireman, and later as a steamship engineer. He moved to North Carolina and married Margaret Wallace. The couple moved to Norfolk Virginia.
