Photographs of relatives in Townes albuim photos that had no identification on the originals. Any clues? Maybe grandmothers? An intersting guessing game. (And a reminder to keep label your selfies for future generations.)
These are from a box of old dauguerreotypes that included a picture of an older Adolphus Townes. These were in similar framing containers, taken by a photography studio in Richmond, Va. likely sometime between c.1850 and 1873 (possibly in a group session.) . There is no identification of individuals but they were probably members of the Townes and Giles families at that time who lived in the vicinity. Is the fellow in uniform in photo 4 Capt. William B. Giles Jr? Based on resemblances, the couple could be related to Adolphus. Compare the photo of William Townes's sister Elizabeth Townes on her page to the woman in the round bonnet in photo 3 . Could be related.
